| Spreeuw Enterprises Ltd. was incorporated in February of 1974, and at that time its core business was residential construction.
Store operations under the trade name Valley Building Supplies began in January 1976. Founded, owned, and managed by the brothers Casey and Co Spreeuw, the company has long since surpassed their original vision. Co, a journeyman carpenter, and Casey who had been involved in the construction industry, both had a sense of what people would want out of a building supply store. Their strategy was to provide personal customer service, a commitment to a wide selection of quality products, and a fair-pricing policy.
In 1980, Valley Building Supplies joined the TIM-BR-Mart buying group to capitalize on the strenght of a cooperative of what is now over 600 independently owned and operated building supply operations.
After moving to the new main store building in 1981, Valley experienced a steady growth in size, number of employees, product depth, customer base, and sale volume. In 1996 the economy slowed and Valley consolidated to its core strenghts. Now Valley employs more than 35 full time employees.
Open seven days a week, the store offers delivery service from Saltery Bay to Lund and beyond, including Sechelt and surrounding area as well as Texada Island. In the company fleet there are two crane trucks, one flat deck, three pickups and one van.
Over the past 30 years Valley Building Supplies Ltd. has continued adding to and refining its product lines, and now carries more than 16,000 items. Valley Started with basic building products, such as lumber and plywood, electrical, plumbing supplies, paints and roofing. Added items including builders hardware, then hand and power tools. More recently the store has added custom prehung doors, kitchen cabinets, countertops, and a rental department.
In April of 1995 valley started designing and manufacturing roof trusses on site. Now the company offers custom roof trusses as well as TJI Silent floor systems. Very popular custom garden sheds are also built on site.
A newer niche for Valley has been wood and pellet stoves. There is a certified W.E.T.T. technician on staff to handle stove installations and inspections for insurance purposes.
It took a constant commitment to the customer for Valley Building Supplies Ltd. to establish its current reputation, and will take no less effort to keep it. The guiding principles and commitment to excellence of the past and present owners is a necessary element of Valley's success, and is reinforced to all new and present team members.
